Chalk Talk: Scholarship Search

Junior and senior year of high school can be intimidating to say the least. Not only are students expected to perform top notch in school, they must deal with added life pressures that come with age, responsibility, and change. One of the biggest questions facing many high school upper classman is how to pay for college education. With tuition increasing by the year, higher education can seem completely out of reach. Especially for a student who isn’t used to looking at bills and juggling finances. With that in mind, scholarships can be a wonderful option. While some are only worth 200 to 500 dollars, these small scholarships add up and, when calculated in the number of hours you would have to work at McDonald’s to earn the same amount, can be quite significant. Searching for scholarships can be quite daunting, however, since there are so many students seeking them and so many qualifications on each one. Most high schools have resources for students who want to apply for scholarships. The scholarships that are often easier to be considered for are local ones given by local businesses, schools and organizations or funds.
