Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Wetumpka District Curriculum
In English, students build literacy and communication skills, enabling them to communicate complex thoughts in speech of writing by the time they graduate. This goal is accomplished by introducing texts of different styles, requiring students to write for different purposes, and offering opportunities to discuss the literature read. There is also an emphasis on vocabulary, grammar use and writing conventions.
In Mathematics, the scholars of Wetumpka are taught the relevant curriculum beginning at an early age in the primary grades, and as they get older the curriculum becomes more challenging to meet their intellectual needs. Wetumpka students have a large choice of mathematical electives to take in high school that will prepare them for the higher-levels of math in college. Whether the students choose to go to college, or enter the workforce after high school, this school system will have prepared them for their next step in life as young adults.

Chalk Talk: The Role of Instructional Coordinators
The Instructional coordinator within a school system usually works in the central office. This person oversees the instructional techniques and the data (from assessments) from the teachers and the students. This vital employee (or employees) can focus on one subject area, such as Instructional Coordinator for Math, or all subjects, and this depends on the size of the school system. For larger school systems there are several coordinators of instruction.
