Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Whitehall District Curriculum

The high school social studies curriculum includes coursework in world geography. Geography students gain an appreciation for the environment and the impacts that the landscape has on the development and subsistence of societies. Students learn about natural resources, including both renewable and non-renewable sources of energy.

Whitehall’s students have a number of opportunities to study the arts as they progress through the school system. Part of the arts curriculum is the study of drama and theatre. Students undertake the study of theatre on three levels. On the creation level, learners distinguish between the various roles and responsibilities of producing a theatre production, from acting to directing to set decoration. Students also acquire an appreciation for the different types of productions that can be made, including dramas, comedies, and tragedies. At the performance level, students develop the necessary skills to effectively deliver a theatrical performance.

Whitehall District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The town of Whitehall is served by one public school system. Whitehall City Schools offers programs for students in preschool through the twelfth grade. Students in the district attend one of six schools, each of which provides a safe and nurturing environment in which all children can learn. The mission of the district is to open doors of opportunity for students by preparing them for college, work, and life. In addition to the academic skills students acquire, they also gain valuable practical skills that facilitate improved communication, cooperation, and respect for diversity.

We currently cover the following Whitehall-area school district: Whitehall City Schools.

Chalk Talk: Value of Physical Education Classes

Physical education courses at the elementary, middle, and high school levels provide many valuable functions for students. Aside from the obvious health and wellness benefits that children garner from physical activity, they also experience reduced levels of stress because the activities in P.E. class allow kids to release tension and anxiety. The activities in P.E. also teach kids self-discipline, self-control, and the value of setting and attaining goals. Students acquire valuable leadership skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others as well. The ability to strengthen relationships with peers is also increased as children experience fun and play together in P.E. courses. There are academic benefits too. Students who take part in regular physical activity demonstrate increased concentration, focus, and willingness to learn.
