Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Whitehouse District Curriculum

The Social Studies curriculum at Whitehouse Independent School District includes the study of American and World History. Students also learn about geography, economics, government, citizenship, science, technology, and society, andculture. These important concepts also allow students to conduct independent research which helps them hone their literacy and academic research skills. Students also gain comprehension abilities reading informational texts and proper techniques for citing their sources.

The Science curriculum is organized around key topics and develops students understanding of them each year. The goals of learning include scientific investigations and reasoning, matter and energy, force, motion, and energy, earth and space, and organisms and environments. In high school there are advanced courses in Astronomy, Physics, Chemistry as well as Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate science courses that introduce students to the type of academic rigor they can expect in college.

Finally, try to maintain as many routines in the new home, with special treats that allow the child to feel connections.
