Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Whittier District Curriculum

In Language Arts, fundamental communication skills are gained. Students learn strategies for reading a variety of genres of literature as well as non-fiction texts from other content areas. The processes of editing, revising and developing clear writing are part of the curriculum's goals for each year. By the end of high school, students will have the chance to write for persuasive or expository purposes, as well as creative and reflective opportunities to express themselves. This broad framework details with exactitude the necessary sub-skills to support whole subject understanding and offers the proper guidance for targeted instruction which enables student mastery of content.
