Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Wildwood District Curriculum

The elementary Math curriculum focuses on core concepts, as well as the practice and application of these concepts. Students are introduced to a wide variety of fundamental topics and each of these new concepts is scaffolded into the next upon mastery, ensuring the highest level of student comprehension. Once students reach middle and high school they will be introduced to more advanced algebraic functions, as well as more advanced geometry, statistics and probability.

Communication and critical thinking skills are crucial in the Rockwood School District, and students begin developing them at an early age. The English Language Arts curriculum strives to enhance these skills through reading and writing fluency. Students are expected to be able to comprehend and evaluate a wide variety of texts, including fiction and nonfiction. As they advance into secondary school, students will be expected to incorporate research skills into their work, as well as a thorough understanding of grammatical constructs.

Chalk Talk: Foldables – Making your Study Guides

Do you have tons of notes to study, without a good way to organize them? Think about organizing your study notes into a foldable. These graphic organizers are just what they sound like—construction or plain white paper that is folded in a way that allows easy access, and promotes quick study reference using flaps and folds. Instead of carrying around a hundred individual flashcards, you can make a small booklet out of construction paper with up to four sticky notes on each booklet page. The front of the sticky note can have a printed vocabulary word, and the inside can have the definition. This can organize your subject matter into one small section per subject, instead of using the single big pocket that many 3- or 5-subject notebooks have. Create a four-flap foldable to help you study the four chambers of the mammalian heart. Let folding take arts and crafts to the next level, and help your educational endeavors.
