Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Wilmot District Curriculum

In Math, students learn how to solve problems in algebraic, geometric and quantitative problems. In Science, the content and concepts of biology, earth and space science, chemistry and physics are taught by creating investigative opportunities for students. The English language arts curriculum begins with fundamentals of literacy and builds towards students abilities to analyze literature and create their own.

The curriculum is able to expand to include newer subject areas. Technology is an area of learning that is infused in many aspects of the curriculum. In Science, students learn about the nature of technology and engineering and design principles of technology. Students can also take a historical and sociological look at how technology changes and shapes our world. The curriculum is designed so that students are able to learn about transformations in the world as they are happening around them.

Wilmot District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

In Wilmot, student learning is conducted through the process laid out in the Ontario Curriculum. This system has been designed so that students receive a core academic experience that uses clear expectations for learning and which is enhanced by programs aimed at fitting with students’ interests. Each subject is taught by establishing a sound foundation in procedural and factual knowledge from which builds a deeper analytic understanding of the subject area. In high school, the curriculum provides for career related courses and apprenticeship programs as well as college level academic work for students ready to make that transition.

We currently cover the following Wilmot-area school districts: Waterloo Catholic District School Board, Waterloo Region District School Board.

Chalk Talk: What Are Some Post-Secondary Options for My Child?

When a student is getting ready to graduate high school, their plans for next steps are supported through different learning pathways at the schools. Students may choose to go into a four-year college; for those who have this goal, following the Academic course formats in core subjects is advisable. Students may opt for two year post-secondary programs that specialize in a career-oriented field. This would be supported by either the Academic or Applied course formats. Many students plan to enter the workforce and the programs in Cooperative Education and the High Skills Specialist Majors are well-suited to prepare students for career success. There are also opportunities for international work and study, which is supported by all the available options including international language learning.
