Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Windham District Curriculum

Students learn the basics of literacy learning recognition of letters and how to write them, as well as learning the sounds of each letter. Students learn listening skills be hearing stories read out loud and answering questions about the stories. Teachers use different strategies to help students to achieve a strong Literacy foundation so that they can be successful in school and in their future lives of employment and college. Also, by showing the students where they can look for examples of the writing they need, they are given the tools to face any writing expectations that comes their way in college or in a career.

Another very important subject in the curriculum used in Windham public schools is math. Mathematics is part of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) program that prepares students not only for college, but for the competitive career field decisions that will face them upon high school graduation

Have a tea party with pretend tea or fly to the moon in a rocket ship. This is where their interests, talents, and curiosity will emerge from and it should be nurtured.
