Windsor District and Curriculum
Windsor Unified School District uses the standards provided by the Common Core and California Content Standards to plan out the instructional objectives in terms of the knowledge, skills, concepts, and higher-order thinking skills which students should develop. The district also has a set of Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLR’s) designed to promote decision-making, goal setting, understanding, lifelong learning, and citizenship. These goals are fostered through the core subjects and the range of enrichment, projects and extracurriculars provided at the schools.
Language Arts is framed by the Common Core Standards in such a way that all K-12 teachers know what they are expected to teach their students. Students develop reading strategies that build from basic comprehension to more advanced evaluation and analysis of text. Students write for many purposes, are expected to understand the structure of the language, and encouraged to find their ‘voice’ in writing. Classroom discussions provide the opportunity for students to learn listening and speaking skills that are critical for their future pursuits.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Windsor District Curriculum
The framework for Math is laid out to give students the strategies they need to perform abstract and quantitative reasoning to solve problems. Students start with basic operational procedures, and are taught more in-depth processes in their classes in algebra or geometry. They learn how to use expressions and equations, measure quantities with precision and analyze such data using different methods.
In Science, students are grounded in the principles of scientific thinking through their early lessons in biology, earth and life science, environmental and basic physics. The instruction lays the foundation of scientific knowledge that exists, then requires that students use this knowledge to generate and test their own ideas. The nature and design of technology is a focus of the Science curriculum, and technology is used in many ways across all subjects so that students develop technological literacy.

- Language Academy - The Cali Calmécac Language Academy is a dual immersion language school for students in grades K-8. Teaching is conducted in both English and Spanish and students are immersed in a linguistic and cultural experience that helps them develop advanced language abilities and a distinct cultural awareness. For students who attend the program, bi-lingualism and bi-literalism are developed and supports students with their goals at the high school.
- Alternative Education - The district has five alternative education sites for students who are interested in attending a school that is outside of the traditional school day structure. These schools have smaller teacher to student ratios, engage in a range of project-based learning experiences, and have formed partnerships with community members to help establish potential post-secondary avenues a student may choose to take.
- Facilities Project - Through the Measure B Bond Initiative, the district is projecting towards a number of facility improvement projects. The elementary schools are to be renovated, an energy plan is being established, and a new school site is being developed.
