Chalk Talk: Multiple Intelligences Theory: Naturalist Intelligence

The Multiple Intelligences Theory was established in the 1980’s by the educator and research Howard Gardner. The original set of intelligence centers include verbal/linguistic, mathematical/logical, spatial/visual, musical, kinesthetic, intrapersonal, and interpersonal. Spiritual and naturalist were added to the list upon further research. Naturalist intelligence involves nurturing and relating information to one’s surroundings. People with high naturalist intelligence can easily classify natural forms of species, plants, rocks, and the environment. They will likely easily understand the different habitats needed for living things to thrive. Naturalist intelligence involves being in tune with nature and find themselves enjoying many outdoor pursuits. You may have an interest in biology, botany or zoology and like to organize and categorize information. Possible career selections include a biologist, conservationist, farmer, hunter, and chef. Does nature interest more than others? You may have strength in naturalist intelligence.
