Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Woolwich Township District Curriculum

The Swedesboro-Woolwich School District and the Kingsway Regional School District have worked collaboratively to develop a comprehensive K-12 curriculum. In so doing, they have ensured that students have a seamless transition from one district to the next. It also provides learning opportunities that are aligned to the rigorous Common Core State Standards and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards.

All high school students in Woolwich Township engage in a study of potential career areas as part of the 21st Century life and careers curriculum. Students have opportunities to study each of the sixteen federal career clusters in order to find the area that most interests them. Each career cluster is built upon a strong academic foundation that includes proficiency in language arts, math and other core areas. Students also learn how to utilize effective communication skills in order to work with others, complete assignments and organize information. Career-based activities help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Chalk Talk: Great Reasons to Read More

Reading – especially reading often – provides many benefits for readers. The obvious benefits of improved reading skills and enhanced vocabulary are great in and of themselves. But frequent reading is also a great way to relax and unwind. For students, reading for a few minutes after school can help them release the stress of the school day and “get away” from all their responsibilities. Reading before bed is another great time to read, as the relaxation one experiences while reading facilitates a better night’s sleep. Frequent reading also helps keep the mind in shape. Studies show that people who read often have better memories, better attention spans and are more empathic towards others.
