Chalk Talk: What Can You Do With A Philosophy Major?
Some students are intrigued by Descartes, Nietzsche, de Beauvoir and Locke to mention a few philosophers while others enjoy reading Ortega's works on spiritual growth and loving oneself as the key to liberation. Philosophy can be a complex mind-bending subject reinforcing us to think deeply about highly moral but controversial subjects on feminism's meanings of love, the effects of discrimination and injustice, the meaning of life and patriarchy. Every facet of our lives that probes us to ask questions about the meaning of life is covered in philosophy books and yet, many questions are left unanswered--for us to determine. This is why many lawyers are philosophy majors even savvy businessmen who know how to negotiate a great deal. Philosophy is not only for the thinkers but those who have the courage to ask, to seek and to discover the answer to their own questions. Philosophy allows us to open up our minds, to learn how to think and to embrace controversial subjects that offer diverse views.
