Wylie District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

Wylie schools follow the educational suggestions set forth by Leander Independent School District. This district gives students to face the future by basing the curriculum on the Essential Units of Study which, in turn, are based on the state standards set up in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. By the time they graduate, students will have a better grasp on the method of learning in all subjects that works best for them. They can then explore their world even more by using the skills they have learned.

We currently cover the following Wylie-area school district: Leander Independent School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Wylie District Curriculum

The Science curriculum at Wylie helps students look beyond the surface of items they see every day. The children begin by looking at the life cycles that surround them. This includes the basics of plant and animal lives. After this, students learn to explore each of these areas more in-depth, then they take it to the cellular level. In middle school, the science classes are flipped classes, so students view lessons at home, where parents can see what the students are learning. They then bring their questions to class where they are able to use hands-on methods and labs to help clarify their learning.

The Mathematics curriculum at Wylie schools teach all the students the elements of geometry first by teaching children the characteristics of basic shapes like squares, circles and triangles. Within a few years, students learn how to measure the perimeter of these and other shapes. By the time they graduate, students have the tools to measure the area and how to create shapes given only a few of the characteristics. Wylie graduates students that are now able to solve problems throughout their lives.

Chalk Talk: Success in Reading

To help children succeed in school, reading skills are needed. There are ways to help a child become a successful reader. First, help the child choose books that will slightly challenge them without leading to discouragement. To help find these books, count the number of mistakes that are made when reading. If there are more than two per page, the book may be too difficult. If the child does choose a book that is too difficult, take turns reading. Another way to help a child succeed is to try to find books that have an audio version included. Educators can also help come up with ways to help a child become a fluent reader.
