Zimmerman District and Curriculum
Elk River Area Schools is responsible for educating K-12 students in the city of Zimmerman. The district seeks to empower students through education. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Zimmerman District Curriculum
Elementary social studies students in Zimmerman explore various government institutions and political processes. Students learn about the three branches of government, and identify the central purpose of each. Likewise, learners explain how each branch serves as a check on the other branches to ensure proper power is maintained between all three. Separation of powers is a concept that is also studied, as is the idea of federalism. The purpose of fees and taxes is analyzed as well.
Zimmerman’s high school health sciences curriculum helps students develop a strong understanding of how they can enhance their health and wellness. Students develop personal health goals and establish a specific plan for positive health change. Students then implement their plan and reflect on it throughout the process to assess how they are progressing towards their goals. Learners also acquire the skills needed to effectively cope with life events, such as stress. Stress reduction techniques, such as taking a timeout and breathing deeply, are explored.

Taking some time to interact with teachers other than to inquire about a problem your child is having goes a long way in building a strong relationship. Parents should also be as involved in school as possible. Volunteering for an activity or working with the PTA are easy ways to get involved.
