About Me

SUBJECTS

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

My goal is to encourage students to think rationally and expand their knowledge. I want to emphasize learning and thinking instead of just memorizing facts. I feel it is essential to motivate students to be interested in what they are learning about and so I try to present the material in a way that they can relate to the information.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I have a B.Sc. from McMaster University with a minor in Environmental Science. My major courses of study were microbiology, ecology, chemistry, and biodiversity. I am currently finishing up my M.Sc. from the University of Northern British Columbia in Natural Resources and Environmental Studies. My major courses were research methods and design, ecological statistical analyses, and global change impacts.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I was a math and science for over 2 years. I have also been a teaching assistant for biology labs at McMaster University and UNBC for 3 years. I also taught English in South Korea for a year to kindergarten and elementary school students.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

I am an outdoor enthusiast. In the summer I like to go on white water canoeing expeditions, hiking up mountain tops, rock climbing and camping. In the winter I enjoy downhill and back country skiing. I also like rollerskating and knitting.
