EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that each and every student deserves quality education that fit their learning style, while still challenging them to push their comfort zone and learn new things. I see the teacher as a guide and I believe that the student needs to be an active participant in their educational journey for true academic and social learning to occur.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in English and History from Wilfrid Laurier University and then went on to complete my Bachelor’s Degree in Education at the University of Western Ontario.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I’ve worked for the Waterloo District School Board for 4 years as an occasional teacher. I’ve also had the opportunity to teach adult education: academic upgrading and G.E.D. preparation. I was a tutor and mentor for Pathways to Education where I was able to not only help students on an academic level but on a personal level as well.
One of the most challenging and rewarding teaching experiences that I had was when I had the chance to teach a deaf student English. I learned so much about American Sign Language, and how to adapt my teaching methods to fit a no sound environment. It was a wonderful personal journey that led to a deeper understanding of educational modification, learning styles, and differentiated instruction.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I enjoy a variety of activities: aerobic workouts, zumba, yoga, and step. I recently started playing golf and joined a roller derby league. I also love to cook, bake, and occasionally attempt painting- it’s more of a passion then a skill. I’m also into video games.
