My educational philosophy is that everyone deserves to be given a chance to succeed by bettering themselves through education. Learning is ever evolving and will impact one’s future. Not everyone comprehends the same way, but providing different avenues for understanding can make learning achievable and fun.
I graduated with Honors and Top Ten Percent from Noblesville High School in 2005. I went to University of Southern Indiana where I was the first athlete to play four years of a sport and graduate the nursing program with a BSN in four years as well. I am currently enrolled at Maryville University and am expected to graduate with a MSN in Nursing this December 2014.
Growing up, my mother was a third grade teacher, which has helped me gain teaching skills that I have utilized as a soccer and basketball coach, informal tutor in college, and with my patients as a nurse. It is through assessment of learning preference and using the style and language that one will understand, that understanding over a subject (whether it be science, a basketball play, or post-operative surgery material) can be done. Through coaching and nursing, I have gained experience with teaching different subjects to individuals of all ages, reading levels, and demographics.
I currently volunteer coach with a local travel club. I also distribute cancer care blankets that are made by a church to patients at St. Vincent. In the past, I have coached soccer and basketball while being on other committees. In my free time, I enjoy running and playing with my husky dog.
