EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
When working with students, I take a non-directive approach in tutoring literature and language arts. This helps the student with their deeper literacy, critical thinking, and creative problem solving. With grammar, I use a directive approach and model correct application of grammar to improve technical writing proficiency.
Overall, I believe communication with the student is the most important and will help them develop their own voice. I believe in setting an agenda so that their priorities are understood by both of us.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in English from Middle Tennessee State University in December of 2013. During my last semester, I worked as a writing consultant at the University Writing Center. I took courses in peer tutoring, professional writing, media writing, and literature. My education has fostered great communication skills and deeper literacy.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I tutored at the University Writing Center at Middle Tennessee State University. I did in-class workshops on elements of effective writing and outlined lesson plans and activities for the workshops. I also did online sessions with students. I transitioned into private tutoring for Ph.D. students, students preparing for graduate school, and undergraduate students. I currently telecommute with my Middle Eastern clients and work on grammar and English composition.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I volunteer with Adorned in Grace, which serves as a volunteer-run bridal shop that takes donated wedding dresses, sells them at discounted prices, and uses the proceeds to provide relief for victims of human trafficking.
STANDARDIZED TEST RESULTS
I received a 28 on the ACT.
