EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
No matter what the position someone holds in society they are where they are today because they had a Teacher. Teachers are an inspirational part of society. They shape future generations. Students continue studies in various subjects because of influential teachers, people who we consider to be role models. Operating my own home based daycare for three years and also being a mother of two young children, both who are now in the public education system, I see first hand how my influence and the influence of teachers shape children and the youth of today. It is so important to take the time to interact with each one of them, to acknowledge their successes, encourage them when having difficulties, to be supportive and remain positive.
My philosophy of education will change and evolve over time as I gain experience in the field of teaching. It is my belief through education; an individual will receive the core skills and tools that are necessary to build a life that is successful and prosperous. Within an educational setting, student should be continually encouraged to solve problems similar to those they will encounter outside of school and this will in turn instill in them the skills necessary to become flexible problem solvers in preparation for their adult lives. I also believe that, as teachers it is our duty to ensure that learning takes place in a safe, open and supportive environment so that students learn the important aspects of developing and fostering positive relationships with others.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I have my Bachelor of Arts majoring in Geography from Wilfrid Laurier University. I also have a post graduate diploma in Environmental Management and Assessment from Niagara College and I am currently enrolled at Medaille College in MSED Adolescent Program. My content area is Social Studies (Geography/History).
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have a great amount of experience with children. I am a mother of two young children and ran my own daycare out of my home for 3.5 years. I also have experience volunteering at local high schools in Math, Geography and History classrooms.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I enjoy working out, vacationing and spending time with my family.
