Education is not merely memorizing facts and being given the right answers. Education is, as Socrates proposed, about a teacher asking the right questions and leading a student to find the best answers. We teach not to make students good citizens, but to make them critical thinkers – good citizenship and relationships naturally flow from this basis.

I am licensed to teach English language arts in Colorado and Oregon. In addition, I have a master’s in TESOL and have tutored and taught ESL and EFL for more than 20 years. I also have a bachelor’s in English literature, which enables me to teach a variety of literature classes, including AP British Literature/Composition and even American literature. Literature, regardless of its nation of origin, can be viewed through other literature and cultures. The fundamental literary devices are much the same regardless.

I have taught high school English (all class levels) for the past two years. Prior to that, I taught at the community college and university levels, both in the United States and abroad.

I spend a lot of my spare time helping my students outside of the classroom.
