EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that students learn best when given clear instruction and engaging material. I believe that math is best learned with good practice. I believe that proximity to a teacher is often necessary for a student to learn.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I graduated from Caltech in 1982 with a B.Sc. in physics. I then worked as an engineer for 20 years before deciding to become a teacher.
I earned a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Secondary Education from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2011. This was a requirement to become a Highly Qualified Teacher in the state of Hawaii – which I am.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have over 10 years of combined teaching experience as both a teacher and a tutor.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I bike, hike, swim, and build Lego robots. I enjoy these activities and often engage in them. The island of Kauai provides many opportunities for this. I also participate in the Good Judgement Project run by UPenn, where I get to predict the outcomes of foreign events.
STANDARDIZED TEST RESULTS
My SAT scores were 760 in math and 770 in verbal.
