EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

Education should be accessible to all learners and should be offered in a safe, comfortable environment that allows for meaningful learning to take place. Learning should be given room to occur by pacing instruction to the diverse needs of the learner as well as by tailoring learning opportunities that address the multiple intelligences and diverse backgrounds of the learners.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dalhousie University and completed one year of Health Education there as well. I went on to complete a Bachelor of University studies with a concentration in Secondary Education at the University of Maine at Fort Kent.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My first employment as a teacher was as an English as a second language instructor in Japan. My experience there led me to pursue education as a permanent career upon my return to Canada.
I have 3 years of experience teaching in the Canadian public school system, teaching grades 7-12. During this time, I also took part in local marking of Provincial Achievement Tests at the grade 9 level.

Following this, I became an instructor at an adult learning network and have been employed in the position since. The students in my classes finished school anywhere from grade 3-12 and are seeking upgrading in the essential skills areas.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

I am an active member of the Queens Family Resource Association and am very interested in community dynamics and development. I deliver presentations at local literacy events aimed at developing literacy skills and supporting families.
I am also an avid reader and writer, and enjoy travelling.
