EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that every student can learn, but that does not mean every student learns in the same way. By meeting the student where they are academically, you foster trust that is necessary to help them grow and identify the methods that best suit the learning style of the student.
By creating an engaging, motivating atmosphere, students become comfortable and are able to think openly and honestly about their skills and world. This creates the high-level thinking skills that are necessary for higher education achievement. By using this thinking and fostering improved writing skills, students will be able to not only compete in today’s academic world but also become effective communicators and contributors in the community.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I graduated from Methodist College in Fayetteville, North Carolina with a BA in Creative Writing. The coursework was similar to the English degree with an emphasis on writing.
I have attended University of Colorado at Boulder for a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction concentrating in Literacy. I am also very close to graduating from Wayne State University with a Master of Science degree in Library and Information Science, where I have concentrated in Systems Analysis and Website Design and Analysis.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I am currently in my sixth year of teaching in public schools: this includes Title 1 schools. I have also studied and have been trained on ELL support in the classroom. Currently, I am working with a tuition-free public online school with foundational kids that need writing and reading support.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I have coached softball at a middle-school level. In college, I played both lacrosse and volleyball. I am currently training for a marathon. I also read, play video games, backpack, and snowboard.
