Education is about enabling one (and society) to live fuller, self sufficiently, and wisely. An educated person is capable of writing personal wedding vows, reading stories to their children, understanding/making political jokes, and even posing a credible argument to someone with whom with they disagree. Training young (or old) minds to think well and equipping them with tools is essential to society’s success.

Since my graduation in 2004, I have continued to take professional development courses in classroom management, reading, writing, and differentiation.

I have been a full time English teacher for the past five years. In addition, I have also been a writing center consultant (university), a language arts/test prep tutor (private), a basic skills writing instructor (community college), and a 4th and 5th grade math and science tutor (summer program). I have taught special needs students, honors students, AP students, AVID students, home schooled students, students at an alternative school, elementary students, middle school students, high school students, and adult students.

I was a Fellowship of Christian Athletes adviser, where I led several students spiritually and academically. I have been a graduation project coordinator at two high schools where I helped to write the graduation project handbook, advise students during the project process and grade the project success/failure. Additionally, I have also been a praise team leader at my local church for four years.

I have passed the Praxis II in several subject areas: Secondary Pedagogy, English Essays, Literature and Rhetoric, and Middle School Language Arts.
