About Me
EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as a educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas.
There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the teacher acting as a guide, (2) allowing the child’s natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect for all things and all people.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in English Secondary Education at State University of New York College at Buffalo. I then received my Master’s Degree in Teaching and Instructional Design at Wilkes University. I am a certified teacher in the state of Texas.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I served as a seventh grade Language Arts and Reading teacher in a 97% Hispanic inner city middle school in Houston, Texas. I created differentiated instruction-based lesson plans that were aligned to Texas state standards, and worked closely with the ESL and ELL instructors in the school to create curriculum that helped my students gain a better working knowledge of the English language, and increased their reading proficiency incrementally.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I am also an FCC licensed radio broadcaster, and host my own radio show on WBNY-FM in Buffalo, NY. I enjoy theater, concerts, and spending time with my husband and our eleven-year-old daughter.
