EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

My students are the most important element of my career and are the reason I have decided to become a teacher. It is my duty to be an example of honesty, integrity and morality to every person whose life I may touch as education occurs within every aspect of life.

Each student is an individual who deserves to be treated as such within every classroom. As an educator, I believe in mutual respect while encouraging my students to think critically and challenge injustice. In order to stay true to my philosophy, I must constantly be learning new methods of teaching theory in order to insure that my students are able to become creative, productive and satisfied members of our global community.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in English and minoring in Social Science and a Bachelor of Education degree with extra qualification in Special Education from Lakehead University. Throughout my undergrad and professional year, I took part in many workshops and seminars allowing me to learn a variety of creative ways to deliver curriculum content.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I was very fortunate to gain employment at a school for kids with Down Syndrome. I was able to learn so much about my teaching practice including classroom management, lesson planning skills, differentiated instruction and so much more. These skills also gave me a huge advantage as an occasional teacher. I now have had the opportunity to gain experience teaching a variety of grades and subjects. I was also able to get to know many teachers and began to work collaboratively on a Literacy Initiative focusing on preparing students for the EQAO literacy test.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Because I have worked so closely with families, I often seize the opportunity to be a part of many different extra curricular activities. Autism Ontario and the Special Olympics have allowed me to partake in so many amazing experiences not as a worker but as a part of the team. I am always looking to be involved in anything where I am able to have fun while doing something positive for the community.
