EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Education is more than just the transmittance of information. Education incorporates teaching individuality, curiosity, and confidence to the student. True education comes from the revelation of self within the student. It is allowing the student to reach their full potential and become successful in the world they live in.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I went to Mount Saint Vincent University where I graduated with the highest GPA in my program. I completed a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Mathematics and Chemistry in May 2014.
I began my Masters program in Chemometrics at Dalhousie University immediately following graduation, but discovered my passion lies in education. I am currently in my first year of my Bachelor of Education degree at Mount Saint Vincent University.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
For three years I was an instructor for SuperNOVA at Dalhousie University. During this time, I presented 1.5 hour workshops to classrooms in schools all around Eastern Canada, including Labrador, in the months of May and June.
In the summer months, I conducted Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) camp programs in which I would have students from ages 4-18.
I have also been in the position of a teaching assistant for the past 4 years in statistics and chemistry labs. Recently, I have had a two-week practicum in a Junior High School setting teaching math to grade 9 students.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
My favourite extracurricular activity is basketball, in which I help out with a local high school basketball team.
I have also volunteered for fundraisers at Mount Saint Vincent University for various charities. I have had experience as an orientation leader, as well as volunteering as the Mascot, Monty Mystic.
Finally, I tutored fellow students who were in need of some guidance.
