EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe in meeting our 21st century students in their world and engaging them there using the technology they are already familiar with. Learning is fun and easy when students can apply it, and it is always applicable! When learning becomes fun, students begin to see more success. My goal is to make learning fun again for disengaged and disheartened students.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I attended Grande Prairie Regional College to begin my Education Degree, and then transferred to the University of Lethbridge, completing their 5-year combined degree program with a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts in 2007. Since that time, much of my professional development has been focused on the gamification-of-education using the video game “Minecraft.”
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have more than five years experience teaching the inquiry process (a research-based approach to education) in a twenty-first century learner environment as well as planning, facilitating, and assessing student achievement in an outcomes-based formative and summative feedback system.
I also have three years’ experience developing and administrating a gamification-of-education program using the video game “Minecraft” in the traditional classroom as a measurable approach to increasing student engagement and content retention.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I am a youth leader and mentor for female teens, and strive to build positively into their lives. I am also a participant in the Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval re-creation society which studies the European middle ages.
