EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is that I approach the act of teaching with enthusiasm and commitment, and teach my students how to become active, independent, lifelong learners. My personal philosophy is one of open ended possibilities, and that the limits of knowledge, understanding, and growth are limited only by the individual student’s motivation and eagerness to learn, and the teacher’s ability to open the doors of education for each student.

My education philosophy is also greatly founded upon differentiation in the classroom and tailoring my teaching practice to the learner’s individual styles and preferences.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

After completing my high school education at Howe Military School in Howe Indiana, I attended The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. I completed my Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Baker College during my career in the automotive industry. After 11 years in that industry I realized that my true calling was in education so I completed my Master of Cross Categorical Special Education at the University of Phoenix. Two years later, I completed my Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Endorsement from Oakland University.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught in self-contained cognitive impairment classrooms and autism spectrum disorder classrooms for three and a half years at the elementary and high school levels. I have also taught in a resource room setting, servicing students with multiple disabilities for another two years. I have tutored from elementary through high school level for Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Geometry. I currently hold my Michigan Teacher Certification in K-12 Special Education for C.I. (Cognitive Impairment) and ASD.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

I have a conversational level ability with the Japanese language. I enjoy amateur astronomy, fly fishing, distance road bike riding and alpine skiing.
