EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that every student deserves success and is able to do so with the help of a good teacher. I want all of my students to walk away from my class with a sense of accomplishment and wonder; in other words, I want them to feel that they have learned something but also a desire to learn even more.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I received my Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Trent University in 2013, where I majored jointly in History and English. I took care to focus on Canadian content courses, as they were very relevant to what my future students would be learning.
At Queen’s University, I completed my Bachelor of Education, certifying me to teach in Ontario. I am qualified to teach History and English.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I started with peer tutoring and co-operative education in high school. As I was accepted into a concurrent program, I have been teaching for the last five years in various English and Humanities courses.
In my final year, I completed placements at various levels in both English and history classes, with my focus being student success. I have recently started substitute teaching, a challenge I enjoy greatly.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Throughout most of my university career, I was part of the Trent Penpals program, which paired a university student with a primary (grades 1-3) student in a penpal relationship to promote literacy skills.
I also volunteered as a note-taker, which meant I had to take careful notes in class and share them with the Disability Services Office.
