EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that each student has untapped potential that can be brought to the surface by emphasis of learning techniques that play to the students strengths. Each student has his/her own style of learning and different methods should be employed for different students. Students should be allowed to celebrate small successes along the way and enjoy the journey.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I completed my bachelors degree is civil engineering in 1995 at the University of Illinois. More valuable than this has been my education in a real world experience, where mentoring and teaching, has led to my career successes. I have broad perspective on education which allows me to think outside the box to come up with best fit solutions. I also have a Master’s Degree in Geotechnical/ Structural Engineering.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I tutored a series of high school juniors and seniors that attended some of the highest performing schools in the Phoenix metropolitan area. My subject specialties were Algebra, Geometry, Linear Algebra, Algebra II, Statistics and Calculus. I am very strong in Math tutoring for ACT/SAT where my score when in school was in the top 5% of the nation.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I have coached and mentored young elementary school kids from kindergarten through 2nd grade for destination imagination the last 2 years. The program fosters learning in a team environment and promotes out of the box solutions to physical and creative challenges. I have also been a volunteer for my daughters parent teacher organization for the last 2 years.
STANDARDIZED TEST RESULTS
I received a score of 31 on the math portion of my ACT exam.
