EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
My focus is on relationship-based and experiential learning: I believe that students learn best when they feel genuinely supported and are able to connect their learning to real life experiences.
I believe a positive teacher-student relationship is fundamental to the learning process, so I make a point of getting to know my students’ interests, personalities, and goals, which allows me to adapt my teaching style for them.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I was a homeschooled student until Grade 12 and completed AP and SAT exams as part of that experience. In the formal school system, I was exposed to a variety of teaching and study strategies that I have incorporated into my teaching. I received my Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Social Work at Memorial University of Newfoundland.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have tutored students from ages 5 to 50 in a wide range of traditional and non-traditional subjects including English, Math, Music, Biology, and Outdoor Education as a volunteer through my high school and community organizations for the past 6 years.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Outside of school, I am involved in music of all kinds – I have sung in choirs most of my life and I play piano and celtic harp. You’ll also find me outside year-round: I enjoy canoeing, swimming, kayaking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. During July and August I work at a camp for underprivileged children as a lifeguard and counsellor.
