EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
First, I believe that all students will better succeed if reading skills are incorporated into every type of lesson. Without strong reading skills, students will have a hard time with any subject.
I believe that a teacher must be cognizant of the basic modalities of learning, whether it is verbal, kinesthetic, auditory, or visual. Students learn better when the material is presented in multiple ways and it takes a lot of time and commitment to present the topics in a manner in which all students can feel comfortable with. Besides, it’s much more fun to teach this way!
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I received an Associates Degree in General Science at Trident Technical College in Charleston, S.C., and then went on to obtain my Bachelors Degree in biology from College of Charleston. I then decided to teach,so I completed the necessary educational courses and an internship at Valdosta State University in Georgia, and earned my certification in Secondary Education with a concentration in biology and life sciences.
I went on to take many additional courses and attended many seminars, eventually became certified in all subjects in grade PreK-8th grade, adding to my initial biology certification for grades 9-12. I also have a reading endorsement certification for grades 6 – 12.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have many years of experience teaching both in the classroom and in an online environment.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I am a voracious reader and my favorite books are detective and crime novels. I am a certified dog obedience trainer and I sometimes help out people whose dogs need a little “attitude adjustment”. I also have four dogs of my own, and they really keep me on my toes!
I am passionate about health and fitness, so I do yoga every morning and work out at least 5 days a week. I also have a small studio, where I make unique sculptures out of natural materials.
