EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I strongly believe in connecting a student’s learning to something they already know or enjoy. Nothing kills learning faster than boredom. Each student is different and everyone has varying interests but it is so important to constantly change up teaching strategies, keep things fresh, relevant and interesting in whatever way possible.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Southern Maine in 2009, and went on to obtain my Secondary Teaching Certification for the University of Maine at Machias in 2012. I am certified to teaching Language Arts and the social sciences.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
My student teaching experience was completed in a grade six and seven classroom. Prior to this I spent a year tutoring students at a community college and interning at the high schools and middle schools in my district.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
In the past I have organized after school programs for middle school students based on their interests (i.e. scrap booking, crafting and out door play). I facilitated workshops on financial literacy at the college level as well as organized and chaperoned education, cultural and career exploration field trips.
