EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
The key to writing well is to read often and write often. That said, one must have a firm grasp of the basics of plain language in order to then incorporate more involved language.
The expository essay is the starting point for every student who wishes to write with authority. Through this exercise, students learn to examine text to extract key ideas, organize information into a coherent argument and deliver it with a persuasive, objective tone. With that foundation, students can communicate effectively regardless of the career path they choose.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I graduated from Algonquin College’s Professional Writing diploma program with Honours, and a 3.9 GPA. I mastered courses that prepared me to read, write and research at a professional level. I also mastered editing courses, which prepared me to evaluate the work of others while respecting their feelings. Delivering constructive feedback with effectively and with grace was a key component in all of my classes.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
During my time at Algonquin College, I worked as a Peer Tutor. I took a training course to certify my eligibility to work as a tutor. I helped Communications, Research and ESL students produce high-quality work.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
While at school, I volunteered my time to a local live music website, Spotlight Ottawa. This was recommended to me by one of my professors as a way to practice my skills and enjoy a night out in the process.
