SUBJECTS
EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe students need to form an understanding of material by understanding the concepts fundamentally and then relating the subject to personal experiences, or giving a strong structural basis to build further understanding.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. I completed my student teaching at a local inner city school with placements in a middle school and a high school environment. After teaching a few years, I decided to pursue a degree in Engineering. I have a strong background in mathematics and various science courses.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I taught high school Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Anatomy and Physiology, and ACT prep courses. My first year teaching, I had several remedial students of varying age groups. In my second year teaching, I taught freshman Ecology.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I volunteer at the Tennessee aquarium, as a Docent for the various exhibits around the aquarium. I teach children about the animals and their habitats, introducing them to the idea of environmental sustainability and conservation.
STANDARDIZED TEST RESULTS
I received a score of 176 out of a possible 180 on the Biology Praxis exam.
