About Me

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
The pedagogy in which I was trained is backwards design and constructivism. However, when I tutor, I tend to use the Socratic Method. Doing so allows me to quickly assess gaps in student understanding and work with them to make concepts clear and manageable. I do this by working quickly and maintaining an open communication with each child.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology from California State University at Sacramento. Afterwards, I started a master’s of education degree in Math, Science and Technology at the University of San Diego. While there, I was on full-scholarship, although I ultimately stepped away to move to back Colorado to start a family.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have taught chemistry, biology, and physics at different high schools in Denver, Boulder and San Diego. However, two years ago I stepped away from teaching to get back into scientific research.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I am a coach for the women’s rugby club in Boulder, and play for the men’s club. I enjoy all outdoor winter snow sports and enjoy outdoor activities in the summer as well. As a former college football player, I enjoy all team sports and try to stay fit.
