EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I have come to realize that there are two important skills necessary to being a successful teacher: first, you must have a very clear understanding of the curriculum. Second, you must be able to work with and relate with your students. If you only have one of these skills, you will not be a successful teacher. I have seen many teachers who understand the curriculum; however they cannot engage their students. I have also seen very energetic teachers who don’t have a correct understanding of the curriculum they are trying to teach. You have to have both. I believe I possess both qualities.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I received a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education in 1998, and recently received a Master’s of Science in Education.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have been working in the education field for the past thirteen years, with the last ten years being at a local middle school. My classroom blends problem solving, technology, activities and hands on learning. While serving as our school’s Math Department Chair, I have had the opportunity to increase my understanding of the best math practices, curriculum, team teaching and professional development. I have also taught online classes for over 14 years.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I am on the Praxis II Middle School Math: National Advisory Committee 2010 {E.T.S. Princeton, New Jersey), and am also Math Department Chair and received Teacher of the Year award. I am also a LEAD Teacher, coach my District Mentor Program, and am involved in a Professional Development Academic Team.
