About Me

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

The best teachers, in my humble opinion, are those who teach how to think, rather than what to think. I prefer engagement and discourse, rather than lecturing, and like to incorporate student participation. At all times I am patient, energetic and professional, inviting all questions and concerns from students and their families.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I completed my associates degree in English from a community college in 2007 and transferred to the University of Michigan to pursue education in writing, choosing creative and screenwriting as my expertise.
At University of Michigan I was one of five students selected for the master screenwriting program, which I completed. I graduated from University of Michigan in 2010 with my B.A. after winning a Hopwood Award for a feature length film screenplay I wrote during my senior year.
Currently, I am enrolled in graduate school at Eastern Michigan University, pursuing an M.A. in History with 3.75+ GPA.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

As a younger man, I worked during Summer education programs offered by Community Services of Oakland County Michigan as a program assistant, monitoring and teaching young boys aged 8-11.
I have also worked in a tutoring center teaching young boys and girls to read/write and comprehend English.
Finally, I spent a year working as a high school language arts instructor, teaching 9th, 10th and 11th grade. My teaching job required me to create the years curriculum and execute it, which I did with impressive results.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

I am a member of a writers group that has been meeting for over two years. I am seeking currently to join the EMU chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, a national honor society that specializes in history and its study.
