EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
My focus is on creating an environment and mindset conducive to learning. The mastery of elementary principles is key to continuing success as more complex concepts are introduced. Fostering a positive attitude and healthy self-esteem is critical to preparing students for success. Education should present suitable challenges to students with a focus on problem solving.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I graduated from The University of Western Ontario in 2007 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil engineering. After working in the ground engineering industry for a few years I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Education at Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Scotland. Through my work experience I have had to develop skills in technical writing, abstract problem solving, and and design. My unique combination of education and experience suits me to help prepare students for technical post-secondary education.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (secondary mathematics) at Strathclyde University during the 2010/2011 Academic year. The program included three placements at two secondary schools. Prior to completing teacher training I worked as a personal tutor. In my engineering career, I have been responsible for providing training and guidance to interns and graduate employees.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Outside of work my interests include playing guitar, golf, and DIY projects. As part of my professional development I have been involved with the self-study of geology, construction techniques, and environmental remediation.
