Creating a comfortable and open classroom dynamic is critical to being an effective teacher. I attempt to create a classroom that is fraternal, candid, and allows for humor and open discussions. I take the role of facilitator, leading students through the material, but simultaneously looking out for their comprehension. To this end, I feel I do my part to provide students the essence of a liberal education: new ideas, new thoughts, and (hopefully) a new perspective.

I have an AA from Tallahassee Community College, a BS in Secondary English Education Grades 6-12 from Florida State University, and an MA in English Literature from Florida State University. While attending TCC, I worked as a teaching assistant with the college’s pilot online instructional software. At Florida State, I taught Freshman Composition, both 1101 and 1102, and served as a mentor to beginning instructors in the Master’s program.

I have a variety of teaching experience throughout my tenure as an educator. I’ve taught middle school, high school, GED preparatory courses, and freshman writing at FSU, TCC, and Santa Fe College. I have also taught Critical Thinking, ESL, and Literature courses at Santa Fe College. All of my courses have been either hybrid or online. Hybrid courses used predominantly Blackboard and e-college, and also Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook).

I spent several years volunteering at Big Bend Hospice with the Children’s Bereavement Program, and enjoy reading to students at the local library during storytimes. I have also spent considerable time volunteering for St. Francis Wildlife Conservatory, a local organization that rehabilitates and releases wild animals.
