EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Caring relationships are fundamental to my teaching philosophy. By using warm language and gestures, kind banter, humor, and by checking for understanding in a positive, non-pressuring manner, I strive to reduce my students? anxiety surrounding challenging tasks. I believe that a fun and patient mentor can make a vital difference in fostering students? love of learning.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
My qualifications include a B.A. and M.A. in history from Nipissing University, and a Ph.D. in history from McMaster University. I am currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Education program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto, and I will graduate in June 2015.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have experience teaching students in the classroom and working with students in one-on-one environments.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I currently serve as the OISE B.Ed. program liaison to Garth Webb Secondary School in Oakville, Ontario, which is a partner in OISE’s teacher training program. During graduate school, I served as the elected student representative for the Nipissing M.A. history program and the McMaster Ph.D. history program. Duties included liaising with students and faculty, voting at department and interdepartmental meetings, and contributing to subcommittees. As an undergraduate student, I competed in the 2008 Model NATO competition in Ottawa as a member of the Nipissing University team, and I later acted as a senior mentor to the team.
