Edison, New Jersey is a township located in Middlesex County; Edison is relatively large, covering an area of 79.3 km2 . Edison was founded by European settlers in the 17th century, like most of the other settlements from that era. In the late 1800s, Thomas Edison set up his home and research laboratory in Menlo Park, where he invented the phonograph and the first commercially viable incandescent light bulb before moving away. Today, Edison has been one of the fastest growing cities in New Jersey.  As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 99,967 people, 34,972 households, and 26,509 families residing in the township. Roosevelt Park

Roosevelt Park is the oldest park in Middlesex, having been established in 1917. Roosevelt Park is set in a highly developed area, being in response to New York City’s Central Park. There are 196 acres of trees and a picturesque 8 acre lake well suited for fishing. If fishing isn’t your thing, you can also enjoy the lake by walking, jogging, or biking on the paved path around the lake. Roosevelt Park is also home to the Veterans Memorial, which serves as a testament to the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of those who fell in pursuit of freedom. Another great treasure in Roosevelt Park is the fountain sculpture called “Light Dispelling Darkness.” The font is made of ceramic, and was constructed by sculptor Waylande Gregory in 1936. The fountain symbolises the desire of humankind to dispel evil through knowledge and science, and is a reference to Thomas Edison’s most famous invention: the lightbulb. Thomas Edison Museum

The aim of the Thomas Edison Center is to honor the memory of Thomas Edison, and to spread education about the life and creations of Thomas edison, as well as the impact on modern society and research. For over 130 years, people’s interest has been piqued at Menlo Park and the going-ons therein. Thomas Edison’s work on electricity and recorded sound were so magical at the time that he earned the nickname “Wizard of Menlo Park”. People did and still do flock to Menlo Park to hear about the wonderful things he invented there. Thomas Edison himself fondly referred to the place as his “invention factory”. His lab is also generally recognized as the first organised research and development laboratory.
