I am a positive, passionate and enthusiastic person. I feel that to be successful in supporting students you must learn to engage and motivate the student to want to be involved and to want to learn. Each student should feel as if they have something to contribute and feel comfortable be involved in discussion.
As a student advocate, you must possess good time management, organizational skills and be flexible. Each day is different and we should be able to adapt quickly and easily.
We must have good communication as well as LISTENING skills when working with the student, other staff, faculty and parents.
I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Government from Longwood State University.
I served as an Intervention Coach/Tutor to help prepare students in math and reading for the OAT tests given each spring. My students showed vast improvement when benchmarked as well as final testing at the end of the year. I also substitute taught for 8 years. I was frequently requested as a substitute of choice. I feel my prior knowledge and experience gives me edge on this position.
I also completed several long term substitute positions within the district including: kindergarten, second grade, and fifth grade math and science.
I substitute teach presently for all grades and all subjects.
