A classroom should be a place for a child be enlightened. Each child should be instructed uniquely, as they explore subjects that stimulate and guide them towards a bright future. I believe in providing students with the tools to help them generate their own ideas and set attainable goals. While educating my students, I ensure they are provided a safe, caring and inclusive environment. These factors allow for continual learning and growth of each student.
All of my post-secondary education was obtained at Lakehead University. I began with my Bachelor of Arts, Geography, and continued to obtain my Bachelor of Education at the Intermediate/Senior level (Grade 7-12). My two teachable subjects are Geography and English. I then obtained my Primary and Junior teaching qualifications and attended the TRIBES workshop which focuses on developing an inclusive classroom.
My first teaching practicum was in a French Immersion 7/8 classroom. I taught Math, Language Arts, Science, Health and Physical Education. During my second practicum I taught grade 9 Applied and Academic Geography as well as grade 12 World Issues at the University level. I have also assisted with OSSLT preparation and literacy tutoring.
I have worked with Girl Guides of Canada as a Troop leader in Thunder Bay for three units. I have also coached basketball, volleyball and organized various charity events. I also actively participate in diversity advocacy in the secondary level and have developed a number of anti-bullying campaigns.
