I believe that the best education provides students with the means and environment to become independent thinkers. To this end, students need to have a framework of understanding in a variety of subjects, not as ends themselves but instead as a launching points for lifelong learning. I know that every student can succeed in school, but each individual is unique and requires opportunities to succeed. The teacher’s role is to provide the student with the framework of understanding in specific content areas so that the student can become an autonomous member of society.

I graduated from a medium-sized school in Central Minnesota, in a class of over 300 students. I attended College at a small, private, Liberal Arts college in Moorhead, Minnesota. I graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Communication Arts/Literature teaching. In 2013, I received my Master of Science from Southwest Minnesota State University, in Marshall, Minnesota. I completed my action research on autonomy in students from low-income areas.

I have been a licensed, highly-qualified English teacher for the past 8 years. I have taught the range of subjects and grade levels in that time, with an emphasis on 7th and 8th grade English. I have taught High School Mass Communications, American Literature, and Composition. I have also successfully tutored students in English language and reading ACT prep.

I have been a Head Football Coach for six years, with an overall record of 30-26. I have directed six One Act Plays, and two community theater plays. I have coached junior high baseball for five years as well.
