EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Diversity is foremost in my teaching philosophy. I wrote my Master’s Thesis on Inclusion and I am committed to guiding students from multi-cultural and diverse backgrounds through to success. I believe all students can be taught to express themselves well in speech and in writing with the patient guidance of a good instructor and tutor who takes time to test and make individual assessments. The true goal is to give young writers confidence.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I earned a BA in English Education from Michigan State University. I then earned a Master’s Degree in the Art of Teaching from Wayne State University and simultaneously earned a State of Michigan teaching certificate in English. I teach in the areas of my best skills: English, Composition, Communications, Literature and Research.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I taught K-8 in the Lansing School District, then moved to Detroit where I taught in several suburban school districts K-9 (St. Clair Shores, Lakeshore, Lakeview, Woodhaven, Brownstown). I was offered position as a Senior Tutor at the community college level and taught there for eight years. Then, I taught at the University level for the next 6 years, while still tutoring grade school children in spelling, phonics, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I like to read, particularly old religious books. I am also writing a novel about struggle. I also enjoy sometimes spending all day Saturday watching old movie after old movie. I LOVE to sail. I play golf, play tennis, ride bikes, swim, walk 3 miles a day.
