Davie District and Curriculum

Broward County Public Schools bases their core curriculum structure on a spiral. This structure gives students the opportunity to review what they have previously learned. In this way, gaps are identified before the student is left any farther behind. Throughout this spiral curriculum, students will find emphasis placed on written and verbal communication, information, numeracy, social skills, and technology. The Mathematics Curriculum finds its roots in the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards. Key concepts are presented through technologically advanced and modern methods. Students go from learning basic arithmetic in elementary school to learning algebra and advanced mathematics in high school, gaining a range of skills that enable their abilities to perform higher-level math.

We currently cover the following Davie-area school districts: Broward County Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Davie District Curriculum

Students are naturally curious about their surroundings, and the Science curriculum helps them to discover the answers they seek. By
conducting research and investigations and analyzing facts and data, students arrive at a better understanding of the physical world.
Students explore everything from space to the earth to animals to plants to humans.

Above all, the curriculum is focused on helping students gain mastery of Reading and Language Arts. Once students are
reading and writing, they begin to build knowledge of different types of literature and styles of writing. Students who started
sounding out words phonetically in kindergarten are able to write college-level papers by graduation.

Chalk Talk: How to Choose Books for Your Student

To encourage students to read more, it is crucial to choose appropriate books. But how does one do that? First, check with your student's teacher to see if there is a recommended reading list. If there is not, check with the librarian at the school or local library. Once you have a list, select a few of the books and let the student look at them and choose for himself or herself whether or not to read a particular one. Use books that the student has enjoyed reading to select more books. Find some by the same author, in the same genre, or about the same subject. Once the student has an idea of personal preference, he or she will desire to read more and more.
