Huntley District and Curriculum

The district follows the Illinois Common Core Curriculum which insures that students receive a quality education regardless of where they live, their economic background, gender, race, or learning style. The curriculum establishes a clear set of expectations for what students should know in English language arts and mathematics at the end of each grade level so that students meet similarly high standards.

We currently cover the following Huntley-area school district: Consolidated School District 158.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Huntley District Curriculum

The curriculum promotes a rigorous educational approach and affords teachers the flexibility to explore their own creativity and to decide how best to instruct their students who require additional instruction in order to ensure they grasp the curriculum. The curriculum is measured by assessments which measure how well students master content and can apply or demonstrate that mastery. These assessments also capture students’ critical thinking and problem solving skills.

The curriculum emphasizes skills that students need to succeed in college and the professional world by maintaining internationally benchmarked standards. Students will therefore be well-equipped to compete in today’s global economy and better prepared for post-secondary education and the workforce. The curriculum also ensures that students with different learning styles are afforded the same educational opportunities and are held to the same high standards which promotes a culture of high expectations for everyone.

Chalk Talk: Early Decision

A fairly new type of application plan offered by some colleges and universities is Early Decision (ED). ED is a binding, early application with a deadline usually as early as November 1st, or even earlier. Because it’s binding, students are signing a contract, along with parents, agreeing that the applicant will attend this college if accepted, regardless of whether the student gets a better financial package elsewhere. ED is appealing because it tends to offer higher acceptance rates, often as much as twice as high. And because it’s early, students are competing against fewer other applicants. So if the college is a student’s top choice, ED might be the way to go. Some students are scared off by the idea of it being binding, though, which is valid. It’s a pretty big commitment to say that I will absolutely attend this college, no matter what. Many students prefer to wait and see what other colleges are offering before deciding.
