Mono District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The districts that students attend use the guidelines laid out in the Ontario Curriculum which gives detailed overviews of the learning objectives, foundational concepts, and expectations for student achievement in each subject. Math and English are the basis of the provincial assessments which students take in grades 9 and 10; the assessments are aligned to the expectations in the curriculum. Students at the elementary and secondary schools have a number of additional programs and electives which also follow a curriculum that provides foundational skills upon which deeper understanding is formed.

We currently cover the following Mono-area school district: Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, Upper Grand District School Board.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Mono District Curriculum

In English, students in the elementary years are taught language acquisition skills, reading comprehension strategies, and begin to develop written responses to literature and non-fiction. In the secondary years, student learning focuses on the analysis of literature, ability to read critically and appreciate other cultural perspectives, and to write in-depth literary analysis. They learn about other parts of the world, cultures, historical events and use that knowledge to connect with the world around them.

The Math curriculum for elementary students is designed to teach fundamentals in numerical operations, measurements, quantities, proportions and students begin to develop their proportional reasoning abilities. The secondary curriculum begins with key topics in algebra like linear relations and algebraic expressions and geometry in which students learn about functions and relationships between figures, angles and develop a sense of spatial reasoning. Students also gain the ability to recognize the best way to solve different math problems.

Also, public universities tend to be larger and often have many locations through the state. It usually has most of its programs at the flagship campus, and satellite campuses are often quite small with a more limited choice of programs. Also, there are different types of application for college including Early Decision, Early Application, Rolling Admissions, and variations on each of those.
